Welcome to this fascinating exploration of an underwater wreck, the LIDADOR, located near the town of Angra do Heroismo in the Azores.


📍 Location: Angra Bay, Port History of Explorers:

This dive takes place in Angra Bay, a historic port linked to the great sea routes of explorers such as Columbus and Vasco da Gama. These waters have witnessed the rich history of transatlantic voyages.


⚓ Tragedy at sea: The sinking of the LIDADOR :

This ship provided regular services between the Azores and Brazil. But on 6 February 1878, during a storm, the LIDADOR met her tragic end, sinking less than fifty metres from the coast.


🌊 LIDADOR Today: An Underwater Treasure :

Today, the LIDADOR lies some 8 metres below the surface, forming part of the Angra do Heroísmo Underwater Archaeological Park. Since 2005, this area has been off-limits to fishing, encouraging the proliferation of diverse marine life around the remains of the wreck.


🐠 Thriving Marine Ecosystem :

The remains of the wreck now form a thriving marine ecosystem, offering refuge to a variety of marine life. This transformation is a testament to how nature can reclaim its rights, even in the midst of historic remains.
